The daughter of Russian immigrants, Malcah Zeldis draws on childhood memories, her life in various Orthodox neighborhoods, and her years in Israel to create joyous folk-art paintings depicting the fabric of Jewish life. Each of the first twelve months of this sixteen-month calendar features one of Zeldis's paintings, accompanied by commentary on the topic illustrated. The grids for the last four months are grouped on one page, accompanied by another annotated painting. Jewish holidays, days of the Jewish year, and weekly Torah readings are listed throughout, and candlelighting times for selected cities are included.
